Common Ground relocated to the West End precinct of Fremantle in May 2014. The tenancy is located in an early twentieth century bank building. While the exterior is relatively intact the ground floor interior had no heritage features with the exception of the floor finishes – terrazzo in the lobby with the remainder timber floor boards.
The fitout was designed for DIY construction using off the shelf sustainable pine and peg board. All construction was completed in-situ and was substantially a matter of assembly with minimal specialised tools or equipment. The key design element of the design of this fitout is use of repetitive units with a limited material palette.
